Debris Removal
Marine Debris Removal
Hurricane Sandy | The Jersey Shore
Hurricane Sandy left over 550K cubic yards of marine debris and almost 200 hundred damaged boats and vehicles in waterways and marinas along the New Jersey shore creating hazards to recreation and navigation. Most of this, almost 450K cubic yards was sand and sediment, the remainder was construction material washed into waterways. My projects funded the over $100 million effort to collect, remove and dispose of this debris, which included damaged boats, sand and sediment. Given the state-wide impact and scope of recovery operations, the volume of data I was responsible for was enormous – thousands of documents and pages of information. It was a substantial, yet rewarding, effort that was successful as a result of our close coordination with our partner state agencies.
